"Art should comfort the disturbed and disturb the comfortable.”
Youyoung Shin (Yoyo) is a sculptor and installation artist based in Irvine, California. Currently pursuing a B.A. in Art at the University of California, Irvine (expected 2026), Shin explores the transformative power of space, light, and material.
Influenced by his background in commercial production design, his practice investigates how constructed environments influence human emotion and perception. Through works such as The Maze Building and What if, he creates "quiet disturbances" that challenge the certainty of our senses and invite viewers to rediscover the mundane. His work spans sculpture, immersive installation, and photography, often focusing on the unconscious habits of urban life and the hidden narratives within architectural systems.
Shin recently participated in the group exhibition "Monopolizing Commodities: The Language of Living Matter" (2025) at UCI and continues to expand his exploration of spatial and sculptural intervention.
